Short answer: Choose a filing cabinet for paper files, a cabinet with doors for supplies and books, lockers for staff belongings, and a safe for cash and important documents. Our 4-drawer metal filing cabinet is KSh 24,000 and our 15-door metal locker cabinet is KSh 34,000.
Clutter slows an office down. Files go missing, desks fill up and staff have nowhere to put their bags. The right storage fixes that, whether you run a busy office, a school, a clinic or a home office. This guide explains the types of office storage we stock, what each is best for, and how to plan where it goes. Everything is from our office cabinets and lockers range.
What are you storing?
Start with what needs a home, because each type of storage suits different things:
- Paper files and folders: a filing cabinet with drawers.
- Supplies, books and boxes: a cabinet with doors and shelves.
- Staff bags, uniforms and personal items: lockers, one compartment per person.
- Things you want to show: a display cabinet with glass doors.
- Cash, title deeds and valuables: a fireproof safe.
Filing cabinets
A drawer filing cabinet keeps files upright and easy to find. The 4-drawer metal filing cabinet (KSh 24,000) has four spacious drawers in a compact, vertical body with a neutral finish, so it fits beside a desk or in a row along a wall. It suits offices, schools and home workspaces.
Label the front of each drawer by year, client or department, and keep the most-used files in the top two drawers so nobody has to bend all day.

When you need a safe instead
A lockable cabinet keeps honest people honest, but it is not a safe. For cash, title deeds, certificates and valuables, use a fireproof safe. Our smallest, the 45kg black fireproof safe, is KSh 23,000, and the 60kg white and brown fireproof safe is KSh 30,000. Our fireproof safes guide compares every weight and explains where to place one, and the full range is in our safes collection.

Planning the layout
- Keep everyday files close to desks and archive files further away.
- Put lockers near the entrance or staff room, not in the main work area.
- Leave room for drawers and doors to open fully, plus space to stand in front of them.
- Stand tall cabinets against a solid wall and keep heavy items in the lower drawers.
- Measure stairs and doors before ordering tall cabinets and lockers.

Keeping storage in good order
Metal cabinets and lockers need very little care. Wipe them with a damp cloth and dry them, keep them off wet floors, and oil the locks lightly if they start to stiffen. Keep a spare key for each lockable cabinet in a safe place, and record which key belongs to which locker. Wooden and mahogany cabinets should stay out of direct sun and away from damp walls; dust them with a soft dry cloth.
Once a year, go through the filing cabinets and move old files to an archive box or a cabinet in a back room. That keeps the drawers by the desks for current work and makes the most of the storage you already have.
Storage for schools, clinics and shops
Many of the same pieces work outside a classic office. Schools use lockers for pupils' bags and filing cabinets for records. Clinics use lockable cabinets for files and lockers for staff. Shops use cabinets with doors behind the counter for stock and stationery. If you are furnishing one of these spaces, send us the number of people and the type of items to store, and we will suggest a mix.
