Chester Beds

Buying guide

Choosing a Chester bed in Kenya

A Chester bed is an upholstered bed with a padded, button-tufted headboard taken from the classic Chesterfield sofa. It suits a bedroom where you want a soft, finished look without a heavy timber frame. Every bed in this range sits on a platform base, so you can lay the mattress straight on the frame.

Pick the size first

Measure the room before you choose a fabric. Most rooms need about 60 cm of walking space on each side of the bed and at the foot. If your room is generous, the Sunrise Chester Bed comes in both 6x6 and 5x6. For a 6x6 bed with a classic cream stripe, look at the 6x6 Creamy Striped Chesterfield Bed. Ask us for the exact headboard height if your window sits low on the wall.

Button-tufted, striped or channel panel

• Button-tufted: the deep-set buttons give the traditional Chesterfield look. The Green Button Chester Bed is a bolder choice; the Cream Button Chester Bed fits almost any colour scheme.
• Striped: a woven stripe softens the tufting. Cream, grey and orange stripes are in the range.
• Channel panel: vertical padded channels instead of buttons, for a cleaner, modern bedroom. See the Modern Cream Channel Panel Bed.

Living with fabric

Light fabrics such as cream show marks sooner than grey or green, so think about children, pets and red soil on shoes. Vacuum the headboard with a soft brush attachment every week or two, and dab spills straight away with a clean damp cloth rather than rubbing. Keep the bed out of strong direct sun so the colour does not fade unevenly.

Compare with timber beds

If you prefer solid wood, browse our mahogany and hardwood beds, and read our guide to 6x6 and 5x6 mahogany bed designs to compare. Matching storage is in bedside drawers and chests.
