Buying guide
Choosing a garden parasol in Kenya
A parasol decides whether a patio gets used at midday. Pick the type first, then the colour.
Cantilever or centre-pole?
Most umbrellas here are cantilever designs. The pole stands to one side and the canopy hangs over the seating, so nothing blocks the table or the space between two sunbeds. The canopy tilts and turns to follow the sun through the day. A centre-pole umbrella goes through a table, as on the garden patio dining set. Our cantilever vs centre-pole guide compares them in detail.
Choosing a colour
- Light and neutral: the Oasis beige cantilever umbrella suits cabanas, lounges and stone paving.
- Coastal: the azure blue cantilever umbrella works by a pool or the sea.
- Bold: the executive maroon garden umbrella and the emerald teal garden umbrella stand out against green lawns.
Darker canopies give deeper shade; lighter ones keep the area brighter.
Ask on WhatsApp for daylight photos, because canopy colours look different on a phone screen than in the sun. If the parasol sits next to a painted wall, take the wall colour into account too.
Wind and placement
- Close the canopy when you leave it, and always in strong wind. Afternoon gusts at the coast and in the Rift Valley can catch an open canopy.
- Weigh the base down well and stand it on level ground.
- Leave enough room for the canopy to swing without hitting walls or roofs.
Pairing with seating
Measure the area you want shaded before choosing. A canopy should cover the seats and the table with a little to spare, because the shadow moves as the sun crosses the sky.
One cantilever umbrella covers a pair of loungers from our sunbeds range, or a four-seater set from our outdoor furniture. For vehicles rather than people, see car parking shades.
Restaurants, hotels and rentals often order several in one colour; see furniture for hotels, lodges and Airbnbs. Buyers searching for parasols for villas in Malindi and Lamu or garden umbrellas in Machakos will find the colours most asked for there.
Before you order
Garden Parasols & Umbrellas: questions customers ask
Quick answers about delivery, the showroom and ordering.
What is a cantilever umbrella?
It is a parasol whose pole stands to one side of the shade instead of in the middle. The canopy hangs over the seating, so the table or the space between loungers stays clear. Most can tilt and rotate.
Which colours do you have?
Beige, azure blue, lime green, emerald teal and maroon, depending on stock. Each product page shows the current colours; ask on WhatsApp for photos in daylight.
What should I do with the umbrella in strong wind?
Close it. An open canopy catches gusts, especially in the afternoon at the coast and in the Rift Valley. Make sure the base is well weighted and on level ground.
Can I order several umbrellas for a restaurant or hotel?
Yes. Send the model, colour, quantity and location on WhatsApp and we will reply with availability and a quote.
Do you deliver parasols outside Nairobi?
Yes, we deliver across Kenya. Please send your location on WhatsApp for a delivery quote.
Can I see the parasols open before buying?
Yes. Visit our showroom at Rubis Utawala, along the Eastern Bypass, Nairobi, open daily from 8am to 8pm. Read our parasol guide before you come.
How can I pay?
Pay on delivery available in Nairobi & Kiambu. Upcountry delivery via verified transport.
