Choosing a study desk for a child
A child's own desk makes homework a routine rather than a battle over the dining table. The right desk is the one that fits the child, the room and the light, more than the one with the most features.
Pick a colour that fits the room
- The blue Study Time kids desk is bright and playful, good for a younger child's room.
- The white Study Time kids desk is neutral, so it suits a shared room and still looks right as the child grows.
Height and posture
When the child sits, their feet should rest flat on the floor (or on a footrest) and their elbows should sit at about the height of the desktop. Check this with the chair you will use. If the child is between sizes, a cushion on the seat or a small footrest helps more than changing the desk.
Where to put it
- Near a window for daylight, with the light coming from the side rather than straight behind a screen.
- Away from the TV and the main walkway, so the child can concentrate.
- Close to a socket if a lamp or laptop will be used.

Wipe the desk with a damp cloth and dry it. Use a mat under paints and glue, and keep water bottles off the surface.
